Stanford Achievement Testing 2012
This spring, Central Homeschool Family Ministries will again be hosting the Stanford Achievement Test for both members and non-members. This is NOT the “SAT” college entrance exam. The Stanford Achievement Test is a school ability test, which is used to assess where a student’s scholastic achievement lies compared with other students in the same grade level on a national basis.
Another available test, The Otis-Lennon School Abilities Test (OLSAT), assesses developed reasoning and problem-solving abilities important for learning. When this test is given along with the SAT, the results will allow the parent to compare the student's ability with his actual school achievement. OLSAT testing is recommended once every 2-3 years. The testing time is one additional hour on Friday after completion of the SAT tests. Each family may choose whether they want to order this extra test for an additional cost. No additional fees are charged by CHFM for administering the OLSAT.
Testing will take place on two full days, Thursday, May 3rd and Friday, May 4th at River Community Church (21st and Oliver). Testing will begin at 8:30 both days and will end at about 3:00 on Thursday and about 2:00 on Friday. Those taking the OLSAT will end at about 3:00 on Friday. High schoolers not taking the OLSAT may finish earlier on Friday.
For children to participate, a parent must work either all day Thursday OR all day Friday. Children will test both days, but the parent may leave the building on the day that they are not working. Prior to your assigned day to work, please arrange childcare offsite for younger children not being tested.
CHFM will be testing students in the 4th–12th grades only. Unfortunately, we do not have enough administrators to accommodate children with special needs, so parents will need to make other arrangements for them.
**If you have at least a 4-year college degree and would be willing to administer a grade level test, please begin the process of becoming an approved BJU tester now. We are in need of every possible tester this year. To become a tester, you will simply need to watch an explanatory DVD which can be obtained from CHFM, download the application form at www.bjupress.com/testing/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/TestAdminApplyView, and send BJU Press proof of your college degree. If you have been approved previously, you do not need to do this again.
Please fill out the SAT registration form on the CHFM website if you wish to have your child tested. This form will be emailed to non-members upon request. The administration cost is $5 per CHFM family. Non-members will be charged $10 per family.
Each family is responsible for ordering its own tests from BJU Press.
- The deadline for ordering tests is March 2, 2012. This will allow BJU time to process your order and mail the coordinator the tests.
- SAT tests are $29 each; SAT tests with the OLSAT are $48.50.
- The website for ordering the tests is: http://www.bjupress.com/testing/stanford.php
- Carefully find your child’s grade level. If you started the school year in August or September, the student needs the “spring” version of that grade level.
- If you have any questions, please call BJU Press at 1-800-845-5731 (M-F, 7am-4 pm), to insure that the correct test is ordered. Reordering tests later will add extra costs for shipping and a restocking fee on the one you do not use.
- You will need to submit a “Homeschool Status Verification Form” before BJU Press will mail out your tests. Please do this immediately after ordering your tests.
- When filling out the order forms, you must specify that your tests should be sent to CHFM’s official test administrator, Rachel Grebe. On the Testing and Evaluation Order form, her name should be listed as the Tester as follows:
Tester’s Name: Rachel Grebe
Tester’s Account Number: 1772734
- Test results will be e-mailed to each family by the Bob Jones testing service within 10-14 business days after testing.
Please feel free to contact Rachel Grebe at rdgrebe@yahoo.com with any questions.
